Trey Songz is enjoying success from his latest album “Ready,” and is now on the road with Young Jeezy and Jay- Z for the “BP3 Tour.” He will stop at the Norfolk Scope on March 7 and fans are excited to see another Virginia R&B artist represent their home turf.
Songz has been busy promoting his new record and is thrilled to be on tour with musicians he has looked up to from the beginning. Here is what Songz had to say about “BP3” and the unbelievable ride his career is taking him on.
M&C: How does it feel to be on the “BP3 Tour” with Jay Z?
Songz: I tweeted last night that dreams are for real and this is amazing for me because it shows that anything is possible.
M&C: Being called the ‘Prince of Virginia’, is Virginia a place you hold true to your heart?
Songz: Being from Virginia is a big part of making me the person I am and I hold it more then dear to my heart.
M&C: Having been a part of the rerecording of ‘We Are the World,’ how was the experience and who were you star struck to meet?
Songz: Barbara Streisand was there, Tony Bennett was there, along with Diane Cole, to be apart of that was amazing and it is exciting at this point in my career it’s even more exciting to know that the proceeds will be going to a great cause and that the whole room just put their egos aside to help the people in Haiti. It feels great.
M&C: Being in the public eye, is giving back a priority for you?
Songz: I loved to help people even before I was Trey Songz. Helping people now is even more important since I have a voice that people will listen to.
M&C: What influenced the title of your debut album ‘I Gotta Make It’?
Songz: The way I felt. When I look back now it’s pretty ironic that I called it ‘I Gotta Make It’ because I felt this is what I’m destined to do.
M&C: Do you think the title ‘Ready’ reflects how you feel now?
Songz: Well, ‘Ready’ started as me being ready for the success I deserved. It was like a double antandrum that the world was ready and I was ready too.
M&C: What is your favorite song off of the new album, and which song do audiences respond to the most?
Songz: It’s like having to pick a favorite kid, and you know you have one, but it’s wrong. ‘Neighbors Know my Name’, ‘Yo Side of the Bed’, ‘Love Lost’, if I keep going I’m gonna name all the songs off the album so I better stop. ‘Black Roses’ has been received well by the fans and ‘Say Ahh’.
M&C: You were named best dressed by vibe.com for the 2010 Grammys. What does your personal style mean to you?
Songz: My style reflects the way I feel and the way I live my life. If you don’t believe in what you are doing, people can see that. So as long as the clothes are comfortable and whatever I’m doing is comfortable, it’s all the way me.
